Nikola Djurek is a type and various media designer from Croatia. He studied in his homeland, Italy, and the Netherlands, where he attended the Postgraduate Master Course Type and Media at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. He earned his PhD degree in the graphic and type‑design field. Furthermore, he is a Type Director at Typotheque – a Netherlands-based type design company, and an Associate Professor at the Design of Visual Communication of the Arts Academy (University of Split).
Focusing on juxtaposing history, modernity, heritage, and novelty, he positioned himself as a talented type‑designer and graphic artist with a recognizable and unique style. Nikola’s work boasts a spectrum of numerous and diverse fonts and typographic solutions.
Aside from creating pleasing typesets and striking visuals, Nikola’s creativity can also be observed in producing precious wines with Gjurek Wines. In addition to teaching at the University, Nikola lectures and leads design workshops worldwide.
